Saturday at the Miami Anatomical Research Center (MARC) for Nobel N1

I can’t believe what a weekend I just enjoyed in Miami.  No, it wasn’t for sun and clubbing, but instead, for a training course relating to a product I’ve become involved with through Nobel Biocare.

Dr. Steve Widner and I were invited by Nobel Biocare and Dr. Oded Bahat to attend training a new implant concept.  This implant system was only recently approved by the FDA for use here in the U.S and our training was held at the Miami Anatomical Research Center(MARC).

We were among ten practitioners selected for work with this product as it makes it soft roll out in the U.S.    It was truly an honor to be called upon to begin use and documentation of the N1 system.

Nonetheless, we spent three hours Saturday morning in what was at times, spirited disagreement and discussion relative to both basic and advanced principles of surgery and prosthodontics.  

After a brief break, the class of ten practitioners convened in the surgical teaching side of the MARC facility where we performed surgery on human cadaver heads for actual experience in the feel and handling of this N1 System.  It was a truly incredible experience not matched by anything else I’ve done in my professional past.

Needless to say I am very excited to be involved in the launch of this new concept.  At its very heart, it fulfills some very basic needs that I feel have been missing from dental implants and that is preservation of soft tissue.  After all, it’s all the blood supply and tissue remaining around a dental implant that helps ensure it is there for us for as long as we need it.  The new N1 system goes a few steps beyond our current systems to provide more in soft tissue integration and outcome.
